I was using that one. I just switched my cat to Renew Life Ultimate Flora Extra Care 30 billion which is helping to keep the poop odor down.
Is the main difference the potency of the product?  Could I theoretically feed 3 capsules of the Natural Factors if it isn't enough?  Proviable-DC is only 5 billion CFU.

The Natural Factors one is 10 billion CFU and has 3 strains of bacteria. The Renew Life I am currently giving is 30 billion CFU and has 10 strains of bacteria. My Aby had super stinky poop even on the Natural Factors probiotics. The poop smell dramataically improved once I started the Renew Life. I think my cat just needs a higher CFU and bacteria strain for his sensitive tummy. Every cat is different so what works for my cat may not work for your cat.

There's a list of suggested probiotics to use here: http://www.rawfeedingforibdcats.org/probiotics-for-cats---why-and-which-ones.html Any Human probiotic that is unflavored will work. The bacteria strains tends to be the same across most brands. I've heard that one should start with a low CFU one first and gradually increase because starting too high (some are 150 billion) can cause diarrhea and an upset stomach.

The capsule isn't given to a cat. You pull apart the capsule and sprinkle the powder into canned food. If you're only giving half a capsule at a time, you can put the capsule back together and save it for the next time.

Edited to correct CFU count.

Thanks for the information!  That was extremely helpful.  I didn't consider the strains of bacteria included in the product.

The website you linked states that "[Natural Factors] is a very basic supplement with L rhamnosus, L acidophilus and Bifidobacterium, the most important strains," so I'll start out with that one and see if it is necessary to spend the extra $$$ on a product that includes more strains.

I'm familiar with how to administer the probiotic :)  Proviable-DC was the same.  I just mixed it into wet food.

Again, thanks so much for the help! :)

The Natural Factors one is 10 million CFU can be used on cats? At what amount from one capsule? Half a capsule per meal?

Typo - The Natural Factors probiotics is 10 billion CFU:doh:

Yes, it and any other Human probiotic can be given to cats. It is suggested that up to 1/2 a capsule be given twice a day for maintenance in adult cats. You can do just 1/4 capsule twice a day just to see if your cat can handle it and then increase to 1/2 a capsule twice a day.

I've gotten conflicting information about the number of strains to have, wondering if folks here have an opinion.

I gather having a couple of the key probiotic strains is important, but should effort be done to minimize to as few key strains as possible (e.g. 6) or go for the kitchen sink approach about put in as many strains as could be beneficial (e.g. closer to 20).

Some articles and blogs online suggested the more the merrier, whereas others cautioned against creating an overly competitive environment for those selected key strains by introducing too many.
