That's an amazing story about the efforts you went through to get rid of the sun!  You truly were a young scientist!

What did you dislike about it so much?   I mean, it is an .....unusual ambition - to bomb the sun out of the sky!

Yeah, the money thing.  Lots of research doesn't get done due to money.

We'll do it - we'll definitely get to 1500!
I have very light skin and the sun turned it red and it hurt...and it was red
! It also blinded my eyes and it made the day hot!
 I hated it!

Yeah.... money
I plain gave up on bombing it when I found out  how important the sun is, what with plants, warmth, gravity and such
So I didn't even realize the money factor until I was reminiscing many years later

I still hate it, but as a "mature" adult, I must accept things that I can't change

Seems more people are getting into the fun!

@Columbine and @Handsome Kitty Thank you! That is very helpful. I am definitely not up on the abbreviations that people use online. I know some, but not a lot of them.
I had never seen those before joining here! And I'm quite the internet surfer!

I hate that hashtags have now invaded facebook as well. They're stupid and usually don't make sense.
I hate hashtags to death!
Almost as much as the sun

Equally awful is when someone just completely makes up a super long hashtag instead of just saying what they actually want to say. Like #babblingonthebabblingthreadofthecatsiteisjustsofun

I'm not up to date on most online abbreviations either! Most people my age (28) are on all kinds of social media sites and I'm not on any at all, unless this site counts.
So I seem to miss out on a lot of these new abbreviations and memes and Internet jokes and stuff. Social sites like Facebook and Twitter really do not appeal to me at all. I don't feel the need to share the details of my life like that with a mass audience. If I want to tell someone about something that happened to me I'll just call or text them. And frankly, I just don't really care to know every single little thing that happens to everyone I know. You had an amazing sandwich for lunch? Cool. I'm happy for you. But I don't need to spend my time reading about it or looking at a picture of it.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound bitter, but it's upsetting to me to see how big this whole social media thing is becoming. I feel like technology is taking over our lives and it saddens me to see people at a restaurant glued to their phones and not even conversing with each other while they eat dinner. We're losing our talent for human interaction and it's depressing.

Ok, sorry guys... I'm done ranting, I swear. Any of you feel the same way?
Yes, absolutely.  I don't use either my FB or Twitter account and was relieved when gmail started sending all their notifications to another mailbox.

Does that # count as one word or thirteen according to the contest rules? :)

I guess Facebook would be handy for finding old friends, but I don't want to have to put up with all the other nonsense just for that. I do miss out on some invitations to parties and stuff though if someone only sends the word out that way, so that kind of sucks sometimes. But my true friends will keep that in mind and invite me by phone so I only really miss the stuff I probably wouldn't have gone to anyway. :)

Oh god! I hate those! I'm very interested in comics, cartoons and costumes, so I follow quite a few cosplayers on Facebook. I've lately started seeing about 30 hashtags such stupid ones at that! like:

#mirror

#door

#selfie

#makeup

#me

#meandmirror

#meanddoor

#backgrounddoor

#red #pink

#lights

#redhair

They just describe the whole darn picture with hashtags! Really?! Do you need to add a hashtag for the fact that there's a door behind you?!

I hope instagram dies soon!

Btw... I made one when it had just opened, the only thing there is my display picture (of a cartoon) and a subnick redirecting people to my Facebook and I have over 30 followers on it! Why, people?! I have nothing on it yet you still follow me?! Makes no sense to me! Oh well, it's their time I guess

A group of people I went to elementary school with are on FB and it's nice to hear what they are up to and what's going on in my old neighborhood.  The downside is all the religious posts I wind up seeing.  That's ok though cause I just keep liking all the cute cat pages and they all seem to be dog people.

Facebook is okay for some things, but I really just glance at it each day, make sure nothing important is going on and then x it out.

DEATH TO HASHTAGS!!! They are the most obnoxious thing since that stupid talking fish you can hang on your wall. Even more obnoxious when I see someone with 25+ hashtags on a five word sentence. I get it! You want people to think you're living the life, but dang, dude, I don't need it shoved down my throat like that.

Rant over.

Oh! I also use Facebook to follow the shelter that I got Carrot from. They post when they need help with events, supplies, and when cats get adopted. I love reading these updates.

I actually have 2 Facebooks: one "private" and a "public" one.

It's very common these days to have several.

On the private one I add family and friends and the public one I add people that pass a screening (like no creepers or such) they just may be from my town or have common interests. I think I have less than 200 people on the private and over 2000 on the public one.

This helps me separate posts I care about and posts I don't, it also helps so I don't get many "game requests" on the private one.

The private one is helpful so I can add pictures of places I visit and such without worrying about being stalked of harassed by strangers.

The public one is helpful so I can add pictures of public events I go to and take pictures of people: like comic conventions where you picture hundreds of people and you don't know them but still want them to have their picture of the day

I must be paranoid, because I don't friend anyone I haven't actually met, or have an established online/real life connection with :/

My Facebook friends number always stays under one hundred. I mostly share pictures of my cats and have everything set to private.

I found an ad on Craigslist about a missing yorkie who was stolen, and now a lady is rehoming him. I called the original owner and told her about it and she and I are trying to get the dog back to her. Anyone know any advice to help get the dog back? Sorry if this is wrong place to post this, but I can't stand animal flippers/ thieves

Did you call the police?  Isn't this something they can help with?  Did the lady buy the dog?

You could/should contact the police to let them know what's going on and ask for advice on how to handle it.

I'm 33, and I feel the same way. I refuse to use Facebook, Twitter or any other social media site. I theoretically have a Google+ account, but that's just because I have a Google email and it got created automatically. I've never used it.

I don't understand the whole 'following' thing either. I'd love someone to explain it to me. I don't 'follow' anyone here, but a few people 'follow' me, and I'm just baffled by it :confuse3:

TCS is the nearest I get to social media :lol3:

This site is so much better than social media. I love being able to be on this site, whereas Facebook  and Twitter really just stress me out.

I'm 26 and I've using social media since about 16 waay back when MSN was still around.

I have Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+ (made when it was by invite only), Youtube etc. . I found that I'm not much of a "poster" and that I'm rather a "talker". I comment and interact with people so I seldomly post anything on my own

As for the "follow thing" here on TCS I would like to know as well!

I imagine it is a similar concept to Twitter. You like what a person says or thinks so you follow them so that you can read anything that they write. I think this is super creepy personally. I don't follow anyone.

I follow some people and I've never seen anything pop up or be shown. I actually thought it was for that: to know when someone posts something.

I was very interested in following up on a case of their kitty by someone here so I followed them expecting to be alerted when the posted something new, but it never happened

I just noticed I also have a follower! Last time they were in was June 01 so it's also strange I was followed but didn't notice
