We all take great care in finding the right name for our cats. The cats clearly have their say in the process, too.

Let's put the situation the other way around. Suppose your cat named YOU. Not "Mama" or "Food" or "Slave" or anything like that, but a name carefully chosen to be uniquely YOU.

Here are the choices I think our cats would make:

Darwin: Sarge (I'm kind of bossy)
Velcro: Wobbles (I totter around the house)
Chocolate: Marshmallow (Soft and a pushover)

ROBERT​

Darwin: Buddy (He chose Robert)
Velcro: Spock (They like to touch foreheads a la mind meld)
Chocolate: Bean Bag (Great o flop on.)

So, what do you think your cat has named you?

Simon: Cook (He watches me cook.)
Tara: Schnuggles (She is always sitting on my chest with her arms around my neck.)
Evangeline: Doctor (She has a chronic ear problem and I have to clean her ear several times a day and give her medication.)
Astrid: Pillow (She sleeps either under my blanket or on my hip when I sleep.)
Estella: The Woman (She is a brat who gets in trouble for getting into things. The look she gives me makes me think of her calling me "The Woman" with a derisive tone.)
Freya: Grandma (She is technically my daughter's cat.)
Fennimore: Mama (There is no other name he would call me because it would be weird. He likes to be held like a baby.)
Willow: Rapunzel (I have very long hair, and she likes to watch me brush it.)
Silas: The Painter (He loves to watch me paint.)

Onsa would name me 'bed'. She is always sleeping on me
Samai would name me 'food'. It's Samai, what can I say.
Kumal and I are just getting to know each other, so I don't know yet.

Both Toffee and Fudge would be "food" and "snuggles". Toffee's would also be "scratching post" since he tends to attempt to use me as one

I should be more specific. Samai wouldn't name me 'food' because I feed her.
To her, I am food.
She's getting much better about biting/scratching and then licking the blood though. (my blood, not hers)

I swear that's what all the kittens we've had at the shelter have thought of me as. They almost always gather around and watch me scoop, and many climb in the box and help me dig around. Some jump right in after I finish and announce more "presents" .
