He is different the dad is long haired so someone has to be

If the mother was short hair I believe the kittens will also be. Doesn't matter if the father was long hair. Are you sure on the father?

Unless the mother is shorthair but carries the longhair gene, longhair is recessive. Is that right lutece ?? I think you are the expert on this subject.

You are correct that long hair is recessive.

• If one parent is LH (longhaired), and the other parent is homozygous SH (shorthair not carrying LH), all kittens will be SH.
• If one parent is LH, and the other parent is SH carrying the LH gene, each kitten has a 50% chance of being LH.
