There were actually some wild turkeys in my and my neighbors back yards the other day. I have never seen any in this town before so of course I had to take pics!...I couldn't get too great of a shot but I did take a couple that aren't too bad, lol!

Ok, so what IS the proper name for a group of turkeys? Are they a herd?
Thanks! I knew "herd" didn't sound right.Originally Posted by Essayons89

The dogs go crazy (they are in a fenced in yard) and the turkeys don't pay any attention to them.

Ya hey dere! I am moving back to WI in a little over 2 weeks. Where I was there (Montello) turkeys were a common sight, but very skittish birds. When a big flock moved through I always though they looked like small dinosaurs, lol!Originally Posted by KristyKitty
I live in wisconsin, and they're very common here. They are pretty big birds, they're really neat! We do have a hunting season for them here though. But I think it's just bow-hunting, which is really hard so I'm sure most end up okay.
Neat! Yeah they are really hard to get up close too, b/c they get spooked easily. I was walking through the pasture at my parent's farm and all of a sudden a big huge turkey flew up and away. He was really big and awkward flying, I think they can fly for short distances but not very gracefully. It really startled me though! I think he heard us walking and freaked out.Originally Posted by Trillcat

Saw one big male that came to our yard, don't know if he was displaying for a lady or trying to PO another male, but he got into total display mode, I was floored. No camera near me of course, by the time I ran and got it he had moved on. Stunning display, he looked HUGE! (and beautiful, no one else in the house was awake either to see him, this was at about 6am)
