Why do they do that?

Especially when I am home during the day on weekends, just when I start to go to the bathroom, the cats appear from out of nowhere and wander around me, rub my legs, and just basically be around. When I leave the bathroom they disappear back to whereever they were (probably napping under the chair or bed). Why do they do that?

My cat loves the bathroom. She has a fit if I don't let her in when I get ready. She watches me do my hair, makeup, etc. If i don't she meows at the top of her lungs. If i'm in the bathroom, she is, too.

The only reason I can come up with is that it is a small space, an intimate way to "hang out"?

tab runs in as soon as i'm in the bathroom. It's left over rom the routine we had when i worked nights i think. I'd come home in the morning, run straight to the bathroom after the long car journey, then feed her breafast.
However Kipling used to appear whenever i was in the bath and stand on his hind legs peeking over at me lol.

Rocky Rockette also will dash out from wherever she is if I, or anyone else, goes into the bathroom. She has this silly routine.

First she plops down on her side on the floor for me to rub her belly if I'm sitting there. Once I do that, she gets up and jumps into the sink, plops (not lays, plops loud lol) back on her side with her legs open for me to run her belly again while I'm going to the bathroom.

When I stand up she has to make a mad dash for the toilet to watch it flush.

Sometimes I go into the bathroom just to flush the toilet for her to give her a thrill. lol

When I brush my teeth, she has to stand up and sniff the toothpaste on my mouth, and will lcik my lips.

She also loves if I put the water on a low trickle for her. She tries to keep it from going down the drain, and sticks her paw in there to try and pull it back up. Silly head. lol

If I'm showering she loves to stand on the sink or the edge of the tub and bat at me through the shower curtain (I go through 2 or 3 shower curtains a week so I buy cheap ones at the dollar store now). lol

She and the others play in there also at night.

I have no idea what the attraction is.

It might have something to do with the dampness sometimes. I know my Fuzz (who is gone now) used to wait until I got out of the shower and insist on jumping to me so I'd hold him right after I wrapped a towel around myself. I figured it was something about the scent. And Rocky-Rockette seems to do the same thing too.

Im thinking, have no clear cut answers. One is things ARE happening there. But I also believe there are a lots of smells and scents.

And we humans takes of our clothes partly or completely so our human scents are stronger here then anywhere else...

My guesses.

My cats follow me into the bathroom; I always leave the door open a tiny bit (unless I'm taking a shower ... one of my cats has yet to clue into the fact that leaping into the tub while the water's running means he gets wet). If I close the door on the cats, they sit outside the bathroom and cry to be let in. (Sucker that I am, I usually cave and let them come in -- unless I'm taking a shower, or we have company over. Friends and family don't need to see me going to the bathroom.
) My boyfriend doesn't let the cats follow him in, and he never has (whereas I've always been a pushover); Spike and Oz (my two cats) will occasionally sit outside the bathroom while he's in there, but they don't cry or scratch at the door the way they do when I'm the one using the bathroom.

As for why they do it ... I have no idea, although it is pretty hard to ignore your cats when you're sitting on the toilet and they're staring up at you, so maybe it's just a way for them to get some undivided attention? Or maybe it's just because they react to the closed bathroom door the way (most) cats seem to react to any closed door: it must be opened for them, and then they can decide whether or not they actually want in.

On the other hand, maybe they just think we really can't do anything without their help?

If I don't let Trout into the bathroom when I'm in there, she will stick her little paw underneath the door as far as she can possibly reach it..so I just see this furry paw reaching for me! It's so cute!!

Also, she has this obsession with the linen closet..she always has to go right in there and play if I open it to get something.

Whenever I go into the bathroom, Quill runs ahead of me at full speed and jumps into the bathtub, and then he just stays there unless I pick him up and plop him onto the floor. He won't mind water or anything and is quite fascinated by anything with the remote resemblance to water. I've seen him drink from the toilet as well

LOL I meant the scent of the muskiness of the damp water from the shower, and/or the soap, which they seemed to want and wait for. They jump/jumped into my arms as soon as I came out of the bathtub, Rocky-Rockette sometimes before I even get out, just have to move the shower curtain aside.

My cat does this, too. I thought that maybe she was kept in a bathroom when she was a kitten, but after reading some of these posts, I think I've figured out it's the water that's attracting her. This morning I got my hands really wet in the sink and kept petting her. She loved it! I had assumed cats hated water, but she got fairly damp and kept purring away. Maybe they just want a little bath, too.

Tomorrow I'm gonna try a damp wash cloth ... I never thought I'd need to give my cat sponge baths! What a princess.
