Hi, just wanted to ask people who have just one, indoor cat, how is your kitty?
Does it depend on character and breed if they will be ok or not?
I work Mon-Fri 9-5. Over the lockdowns and whole COVID time I was at home much more, now we are slowly getting back to full weeks at work so hope the kitten will be fine.
I make sure our kitty has some quality play time before and after work. He got a bit less active recently (he is 7.5 months old). I noticed that he could run for almost an hour before, now 10-15 min and he needs a break. Then will play again for a bit but in general less than before. My little kitty is growing up .
Recently I started to let him go to the garden (on the harness and a very long leash until we can properly cat proof it so he doesn't escape). He'd normally just sit and watch things, occasionally try to catch some insects.
He'd rub on my legs after he gets inside or sometimes just comes in for a sec, rubs on me and goes out again. When I take him back inside he'll meow for a bit if he thinks it was not enough, but he only does it for a minute or two and then accepts this was it.
I've started to take him for short walks, every few days, in the cat backpack (he prefers to sit inside and watch things rather than walk - at least so far).
When I come back from work he'd be asleep, nothing is damaged, he doesn't misbehave when he is left alone. He will come and welcome me when I get back, wants a cuddle for few minutes but is not too clingy. When he gets enough he just goes away again or just want to play.
Only thing he'll do, that I'm not very happy with, is sometimes he will grab me and bite and lick - don't know exactly if it's play aggression or "love bites" - sometimes it's clear but not always. When I know it's play aggression I say no and walk away and stop playing with him for a short while so he knows I'll not accept that. But sometimes he'll be on my lap, I'd be petting him and then he'll just grab me and start biting - gently but sort of holds tight. I know when he had enough or start to be agitated - sometimes he just does it without any warning signs - or maybe I have to watch closer. And I know when he does "love bites" he doesn't grab with his paws, just licks, then give you a gentle bite and then continue licking. It's when he grabs with his paws as well and sort of doesn't want to let go - this is different and worrying. Doesn't happen a lot, but it happens and I'm not sure why.
He looks happy, eats and drinks ok and is not very clingy so I hope he will be fine as an only cat but was wondering how many people have just one cat and what is their experience.
