After his adventure outside you should call his what ever he will answer to! It is not easy naming cats as they all have such different "operating modes". My ragdoll is so relaxed in the house but when he goes outside he totally changes to "this is my domain and you better remember that". He is not afraid of anything is this mode, he has killed 3 baby cobra snakes over the years!
MAJOR NEWS FLASH!!! Last night Black Kitty let me trim his front claws!!! I waited till he was half asleep on the couch with me, and then it took me about 15 minutes because I was cuddling him and sweet talking him like crazy. When he's been really good, I practically sing to him, "Good kitty goooooood kittyyyy GOOOOOOOD KITTTTTTYYYYYYY!!!", and he loves it. Haha, it sounds ridiculous, I know. By the time he realized what was going on, I was almost done except for his....thumbs. I got those done tonight, and he just looked at me like he was bored. I am so proud of both of us!
Contrary to popular belief, Black Kitty and I still exist. I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted. I've just been dealing with so much family and work stuff since Christmas that I can't find enough time to do things I WANT to do.
Next weekend will be one year since BK decided he was going to be my cat, whether I wanted him or not. It's hard to believe that he's the same cat who never even wanted to be within 10 feet of a human. I don't think he'll ever jump up into my son's lap, but they co-exist pretty well. Sometimes I catch BK just staring at my son like he wants to tell him something but isn't quite sure what to say.
I may as well buy myself a new bed, since BK owns mine. Around 9:00pm or so, he'll start wandering around and meowing at me as if to say, "Whatever you're doing, stop it. It's time for bed." So we go to bed and I usually try to watch TV for awhile, but it's kinda hard when BK is wrapped around my neck. He started that kneading thing with his paws a long time ago, and he's actually given me some bruises on my upper arm. Trying to get him off me is sometimes a delicate operation so I don't end up with his claws embedded in my collarbone. It's a good thing he's still letting me clip his nails....but usually not all at once. A few times I managed to clip the back ones too. We were both shocked.
Awhile back he had finally remembered how to play, and I was just thrilled. He loved chasing balls around the house, and he loved chasing the laser pointer all over. But now he hasn't been doing that for a couple of weeks. He'll still play with his toys a little if I'm playing with him, but he doesn't usually do it by himself anymore. I don't know if he's outgrowing it or if it's just summertime blues or what. That makes me sad, because he was pure craziness when he was in play mode.
I feel bad if BK doesn't watch me leave for work every morning. He's mostly an indoor cat now, but I still let him out for a few hours every now and then. He usually goes straight under the house or out under the trees where KiKi's pen used to be. I've tried to sell her doghouse for a year, but apparently, BK thinks that's a bad idea. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if KiKi and BK could be together now. If they started playing and acting like BFFs, I think I'd just lay down and cry my head off.
BK still seems to be in pretty good health, except a few times I've noticed one of his pupils is bigger than the other. Sometimes it's the right eye, and sometimes it's the left. It might last only a few minutes, but once or twice it's lasted for a few hours. His appetite is still the same, and he never seems like he's in pain over anything. I know I should get him to the vet soon to have that checked out. I've already scared myself into thinking he could have a stroke at any moment.
I've learned that he is terrified of thunderstorms. I guess most cats are. He usually wants to hide under my bed. Last night I shut the door so he couldn't go in there and he'd have to stay on the couch with me. He didn't like that idea much, and every time I tried to put him in my lap, he made a noise that was like growling and whining at the same time. So I got the dreaded cat carrier that he despises and put it on the floor at the end of the couch. He ran right into it, curled up, and went to sleep in about two minutes. Go figure.
That's all for now. I'll try to be better about updating The Black Kitty Blog.
He looks amazing, so healthy and shiny. He does look like a totally different cat to the one you first found. I hope there is nothing seriously wrong with his eyes.
Thanks for the update, it's always nice to hear this success stories.
My stray black cat, Binks, often shows a difference in his eye sizes. It is not a huge difference and is sometimes hard to tell, but he does show a little difference at times. Binks was hit in a car accident that broke off a canine half way as well as bruising his mouth and area above his left eye. I don't know if the accident had anything to do with it or not as Binks was a new addition to our family and we weren't too familiar with him before his accident. Other than his tooth and a possible small limp, he shrugged off the accident and is a great and shiny black cat...with different sized pupis, sometimes.
Black Kitty looks stunning. Thank you for the update, it is really great to hear how he is doing. He sounds like he has completely taken over your home so congratulations BK!
That shiny coat of his still looks fabulous and I wish I could reach out and run my hand over to see how thick it is.
I'm betting Kiki must be very happy to see your home and her doghouse full of love and fur again, how could she want it any other way? BK looks very serious as he poses at the doghouse door, a real alpha cat.
