What's up with the pump on the Drinkwell Mini Fountain?

Turn the pump to the right and get a bigger stream. Turn it to the left and get a smaller stream. What is the point of this feature? Do some cats prefer to drink directly from the stream, but only if it's smaller or larger?

You got it. That and dogs, small dogs can use that fountain as well. I find doggies need a little bigger stream.

Noise as well.

Some cats get freaked out by the water noise too, so starting them on a lower level is less noisy.
