Oh, now that sounds like something my father would do! I can see him doing something like this:Originally Posted by Trouts mom

Dad: Ma'am, I'm sorry, but are you having a bad day today?
Rude woman: No, why do you ask?
Dad (smiling - you know, that "kill her with kindness" thing): Well, you were pretty rude to me earlier, so I wanted to know if it was a one time thing, or if you're just a miserable old bitty all the time. Have a great day!
*walks away smiling while the woman picks her jaw up off the floor*
I laughed too! But if anyone ever said that to me, I would probably either tell them exactly what was making my day bad or I would say, "No, but I can tell you think you're better than me, you wouldn't even look me in my eyes when you spoke to me," etc...Originally Posted by Pami

Hmmm... Yep if I faced attitudes like that then perhaps I wouldn't be all cheerful either.Originally Posted by Godiva
I actually heard someone's snotty kids whisper (while I was right there!!!) "I bet she didn't even finish high school and has three kids out of wedlock!" Their parents snickered!!! I told them off as nicely as I could.
But considering the complaint came from someone here, I'm pretty sure they weren't rude to this woman in the first place. My father treats everyone with respect and dignity, and he tips VERY well (as long as it's deserved). I would venture a guess everyone here does that same thing - treats others with dignity and respect. I've worked in fast food, hubby's worked in the food industry and we both know how horrible people are treated in that line of work. But part of the JOB is to be at least civil, if not pleasant. It's part of my job too (receptionist), so I know it's not always easy to do.Originally Posted by Godiva

Yep, but it is the same about everything!Originally Posted by missymotus

I realize people need to use fast food for various reasons, but try to limit it. Think of restaurants where you are treated great and the food is good. Positive energy goes into the food, making a good meal and you feel good after it.. Then compare that with a fast food encounter, poor quality food, and servers with a bad attitude or really no attitude at all, just emptiness. You eat that emptiness basically, with a lot of empty calories for the most part. And now you are part of that cycle. You had bad food, a bad encounter and you go back to work or home with the effect of that. You will either complain about it to someone else or treat someone else badly and the negatives just keep streaming on.silentNate said: When you have people doing increasingly long hours for lower and lower wages to keep the food they serve profitable you are going to get miserable workers. Basically I'd say you get what you pay for...
Thinking about it, there are times when customers won't even answer me when they come up to the register. I always start with, "Hi how are you?" usually people say, "Fine/good, thanks. You?" I say, "Good, thanks. Did you find everything alright?" And the transaction goes smoothly. It sets a good tone if they have a question, or something came up priced wrong- we can be cordial about it. But there are people who don't answer one question, or they talk on their cell phone, or with whoever they're with, completly ignoring me. Sigh....and I have to still be nice and pleasant (which we all do at our jobs everyday, really...) I just put my two weeks notice in because of a new dept manager. I have tried to be nice, and she never tries to talk to me. Barks orders. I graduate in one quarter. I am getting a temp job until then.Originally Posted by Godiva
That is a major annoyance of mine... when customers don't look me in the eye and talk in a overly pretentious voice. I usually then make an effort to say something weird or funny to make them look up at me so I can smile and make them feel bad, or I work in how I am working on my doctor of pharmacy, or something else that will let them know I'm not the scum of the earth there for their bidding.
