Hey I have two kittens. They turn 6 months on the 12th.
I am a bitt worried abouth the feel of their abdonen. I have been to the vet, well called them, and the first step is to treat for worms. They have had half a pill each and will get another on next sunday. So the vet has not felt their abdomen. I was told it was not necessary right now.
But maybe I am over reacting. One of my kittens is about 0,6 kg heavier than the other and he feels "softer" to the touch, he has more fat and skin. One 3.0 kg and the other 3.6 kg.
I want to say their stomachs feel too hard. But not rock hard. Like a water baloon, hard but still soft enough that you can push/massage/squese the stomach.
The slight hard touch is almost tear drop shaped. Start with the round end up with the ribs, and then goes into a tip. The tip is in the middle of stomach - right between the legs, right where the thies/legs start.
They are not showing any signs of discomfort, or any signs of pain. Even when I really try to push deep into the abdomen.
They are eating, playing, using the toilet, all as usual.
I am thinking maybe this is what it is suppose to feel like. They properly like us have muscles protecting their organs, which is why it is a bit firm to the touch, and the organs are inside this tear drop shaped form.
Also the amdomen feels softer on the side and harder on the underside.
But still not hard hard, still a little soft...
This is the best description I can give, I think.
Have anyone else felt this tear shape in the cat abdonen?
Am I overreacting?
As I said I am treating for worms, and have to wait until next monday to call the vet again, so loads of time to worry.
And english is not my mother toungd, and I really struggled to find the right words to describe this properly. Saying "push deep into the abdomen" sounds really brutal I think, but not too sure what other words to use... So yeah..
Any help would be really appreaciated.
And they are mainly inside cats. I have collars and leach for them. And take them on short trips outside every now and the. To get some fresh air.
And they are castrated. Did that ... 2 weeks ago I think.
