I think this is something that is common in the Northeast. We actually have a couple of sandwich places here in Columbus that have Grinder in their name and call them Grinders on their menu. I still think of them as a Sub.

Only one of those I've ever heard of is a sub, and since I loathe Subway I wouldn't think of calling it that. It just looks like a ham and salad roll to me.

Grinder. I’m from CT. I have a friend from NY that calls it a sub and likes to remind me it’s called Subway, not Grinder-way
