I recently adopted a kitten (2 months ago) and I am baffled at what color he is. He is definitely a tabby but he runs more orange, even though he seems like he should be black. The closest in coloring I have seen online is from African Wild Cats. He is a farm kitty mutt. If anyone has an idea what color he is i would appreciate it. 20180912_130255.jpg Screenshot_20180918-173554_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20180918-173603_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20180918-173659_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20180918-174841_Gallery.jpg

The last photo seems to be the clearest. I’d say silver classic tabby. He’s so handsome!

The thing that confuses me is that his stripes on his body are brown/sandy while his legs/tail are a grey black. His face stripes are also orange. Usually silver tabbys are like black on silver.

Tabbies can have a lot of variation in their coloring. Lots of different shades going on. He does seem to have more ticking than most tabbies. I don't think he's a classic. . .maybe broken mackerel.

Domestic cats are descended from the little African wildcat so maybe he's a throwback to his roots. Takes after his great-great-great-times-a-thousand grandfather :D.

Yeah he most definitly seems to have a coat that reflects back to a wildtype coat similar to the wild cat. His belly is pretty sandy and creamy so sometimes he comes off more grey but his belly spots are a light orange too. Lots of fun stuff going on in him and that's why I made the thread. If anyone has a cat that looks like him I'd love to see how he'll look when he is fully mature.

He darn looks like a shaggy mutt version of its wild cousin.

I think such a "return back to the roots" is called for atavism.

Whichever label, a very nice result. Just to be proud to have this fellow as your household member. :)

No one has given me a definitive answer so I'm still stuck in I dunno limbo haha. As of right now I'm sure he is a DSH that is a broken mackeral tabby. If anyone has any leads lmk. Also i dunno if this will help but his littermate was def an orange tuxedo.
