Well, I bit the bullet last night and told my landlord about the boys. I explained how I found them and nursed them back to health and that I had been trying to find a home for them without success, and now I wanted to keep them. He was not happy, but he did say they were very pretty. He also made some remarks about my cats always needing a vet, whereas his Sisco (the cat we all feed in the garden) has never been to the vet in 11 years! (I didn't tell him I had secretly taken Sisco to be neutered and wormed, apart from feeding him antibiotics when he got in a fight last year).
So part of me feels relieved and delighted and part wonders how I am going to cope with five cats - I always said three was my limit. But the boys seem healthy now (they are still on Baytrim to clear up last infections of parasites) and they are getting on well with the others, Ellie has even started grooming them. Now I must get the paperwork done for them to come with us to our furever home in France next spring.
