Weird New Thing .. Bott Balls

Homer is still mostly on dry food, but he is drinking his water every day, and eating his Purina, and getting his fresh grass with every meal, and his Temptations out of his puzzles, and he has put on a bit of weight this winter, about 1 lb, he is now 11 lbs. (He was sneaking the feral cat food out of the bag, but I stopped that).

About three weeks ago, I stepped on a little ball of poo just outside the bathroom door. The rest of the poo was in the litter box. Then, one morning, I was watching him stretch on the wall, and a little ball of poo fell out, and he jumped UP and ran to the litter box. So I checked him out, and everything looked fine, and nice and clean, and his poo is moist and firm, and looks normal.

But this morning he was running around playing like a moron, and it happened again! It seemed to surprise him, and he went to the litter box.

It's just little balls of poo, about the size of a dime. Otherwise he seems perfectly fine.

When one of my nephews was toddling in diapers he had little balls of poo fall out of his diaper and he called them Bott Balls...

I can’t tell if you’re asking for information or not, but you certainly have started a nice poem;

He seems to have no control when he poops, yet immediately goes to his litter box when he knows it has already happened. Try to call the vet and ask about this.

How old is he? I only ask that because perhaps it has to do with aging, and he is losing some sensation or muscle control. It can even be related to arthritis in the lower spine. It could even be connected to a recent, but undetected injury. But, a vet visit is in order anyway - or, at least a call to the vet to ask about it.

He will be 4 in March or so. I was thinking injury, because of the way he jumps around and twists in midair. But he doesn't act injured. I was wondering if his added weight or possibly because I got him indoor grass and he is eating too much of it? He does like his grass...Normally I get him grass from the yard, a few sprigs, but with winter I bought oat grass and he just grazed through the little containers. I don't SEE any grass in his poo. He doesn't PUKE his grass up.

Don't see why it would be connected to the grass, especially since he isn't throwing it up, it is apparently entirely digested before he poops, and is not causing any changes in his stool.

I just worry about it being some sort of injury and while it might clear up on it's own, it might get worse depending of what exactly is causing it.

Vet had no idea. Nothing is wrong that he can see.
