I'm a mom to 4 (human) boys ages 13,9,7 and 2; and 5 cats. Sweetie(13) and Tommy(12) are both babies from barn cats that I brought to live with our family. ( I also had their parents spayed/neutered then returned them to the barn.) Freckles (2) is the only survivor from a litter of 4 cats that someone was pawning on the beach summer of 2012. Snickers (1) and Starburst (1) both were rescued from beneath a trailer house where an intact mom was on her second litter. The family this mama adopted could barely afford cat food to feed them, much less trips to the vet or surgeries. They were wild at the time, but my boys were determined to catch them! We caught 2 of the 4 babies and brought them home and gave them lots of love (and food) and they have become the sweetest pets. They sleep with my boys every night and cuddle up under the blankets with them. We had the male fixed and the female was pregnant. We decided to let her have the litter (which we will keep and spay/neuter along with the mom.) Snickers had her babies yesterday. There are 3 of them..no names yet. Its funny, I've had kittens/cats always, but never had a cat go through pregnancy and have a litter. The whole process was quite fascinating. She actually had the babies while sitting in my lap! She doesn't want me to leave her side and will call to me if I leave the room. She is feeling stronger today and will now get up and follow me when I leave. I think she is enjoying a little break from the kittens too.
All of our cats are indoor-outdoor. They typically all sleep inside at night and go out during the day. We allow them to come and go as they please. Since we live in the country, they all love to go outside and lie in the sun, and exercise their natural instincts to mouse and catch snakes/lizards and other small critters. They leave us trophies on the back porch in the mornings. We praise them and let them know what good hunters they are!
We have a very content little crew!
I look forward to sharing our stories with you and hearing about your kitties too!
