When I took my cats in for the same thing they told me it's a cat herpes virus. Don't freak out, it's very common and like a cold in the eyes. What my vet (and this site) recommended was L-Lysine, yes the same stuff humans take, to build up the immune system. You can buy it in capsules and shake over their food, or order treats on the internet like I did. It cleared them up in a week, I gave for another week and quit, and they haven't had bad eyes since. I'll start again at the first sign. You'll have to check on the internet for the dose, I gave 250mg in the AM and 250mg at night. I would definitely call your vet and ask about this, to make sure it's OK. Good luck!.
