This is my boy Gizmo, he is 8 months old 10 pounds, I think he is part Maine coon but I'm not sure, can a Maine Coon be short furred?

No, Maine coons are longhaired per definition.  But of course, a Maine mated with a shorthair, with give a shorthair cat whom has Maine Coon ancestry...

It of course not difficult to breed forward a shorthaired parallell breed to the longhaired Maine Coons, but nobody has bothered to do it nor try to register it.
