Thanks so much from Katie (and her worried meowmy) for all the vibes and prayers.
My vet examined Katie yesterday afternoon and ruled out any dental problems. She also couldn't detect any masses and said her heart sounded fine. Her initial thought, given Katie's increased appetite, is hyperthyroidism, so she ran a thyroid profile. We'll have the results this afternoon. If that doesn't tell us anything, we'll go ahead with a complete blood panel.
I'm trying not to worry too much since Katie seems fine otherwise, but she's my first kitty, my soulmate, and my baby girl, so it's only natural.
Will let you know when I hear from our vet. Thanks guys!
Just got off the phone with my vet. Unfortunately, I don't have much to report because she submitted the wrong test code to the lab, so it has to be rerun and we won't have the results until tomorrow.
Now I get to worry some more.
I think I'll just go home and cuddle with my baby girl.
My vet is off today, but her associate said it will be tomorrow before they have the test results. I'm not mad and it's not urgent at this point, but don't they realize they're dealing with a worried meowmy here?
Thanks so much for the vibes. Guess I'll just go home and spoil my baby girl and wait some more.
Finally got some news about Katie. Our vet says her T4 and T3 levels are slightly elevated, but still with in the normal range, so not enough to definitively diagnose hyperthyroidism or consider treament at this time. Since Katie doesn't have any other symptoms besides the weight loss, our vet recommends increasing her caloric intake by feeding her wet food several times a day. (My crew already has access to dry food - Chicken Soup - 24/7,and a little wet food every morning). Her recommendation is Eukanuba Maximum Calorie, so we'll start with that. She mentioned high quality kitten food as an option too, so we'll see what Katie will eat. She loves wet food, so it shouldn't be a problem to get her to eat more.
So, the news is definitely good, if a little ambiguous. The main thing is putting some weight back on my baby girl. Thanks so much for all the vibes and prayers, guys. They mean so much to Katie and me. Will let you know if anything changes.
We're going to have to go with kitten food, rather than the adult food that my vet is pushing. Aside from the fact that it has some ingredients that I don't like (thanks Sharky!), the stuff is just plain nasty. I decided to try one can to see if Katie would eat it and she took one whiff, got this look like her face like she was totally repsulsed, then ran away. Can't say I blame her. The stuff looks and smells awful.
Sharky recommended some good quality kitten foods, so I'm going to try a few different things to see what appeals to Katie.
