So I live in Brazil and have 4 cats, this Sunday poor little Mel came home almost paralyzed and in pain, we suspected poisining and took her straight to the emergency pet hospital. The poisining was confirmed. She is back in the house with me now, and has started to eat a bit, her appearance is good but she is obviously shook and appear a bit depressed (locked in a cage for 4 days, who wouldn't?)
However the veterinarian told us to give her the following during 20 days:
1 - Glicopan - Vitamins and amino acids to stimulate hunger
2 - Mercepton - A mix of substances that stimulates and help the liver
3 - Doxifin - Doxycyclene (anti biotics)
Since the vet-emergency is in another town we took Mel to her normal vet where we live, and she wondered why the other vet had prescribed anti-biotics? She shows no sign of infection she said, and that also anti-biotics only would be another trouble for the liver to work with... So, now I stand in a dilemma obviously, who to trust?
I know that Brazilian doctors in general prescribe crazy amounts of medicine (compared to Sweden where I am from originally anyways), anyone has an idea.
I wish I could take her to another vet, but as far as I know these are the only two even remotely close to where we live...
Many Thanks!
Hakan
