Our cat has a wound on one of his front paws, in fact it looks like the covering of his baby finger has been torn off. No blood. It's Labour Day, so vet closed. He is not walking on this paw, he is a bit quiet (we let him out today *before* we noticed wound, but he just curled up on a chair) and I assume he is in a bit of pain. But he is not yowling and not seeking weird places to hang out.
1. The big question is about infection: can we wait to tomorrow to go to vet, assuming we keep him inside. I am sure that he will get a prescription for Clavamox and a painkiller like Bupenorphine.
2. We have some liquid vet-prescribed Bupenorphine left over from last summer. Label says .25 ml every 12 hours. It is supposedly expired, but I am ready to give it a go. I assume it will just do nothing if it's really expired.
3. BTW, the other cat (we witnessed the fight) is a neighbour's cat, completely up-to-date on its shots. Only 3 legs but a tough bugger.
We love our cat but we are not too keen on spending $1000 to be handed a prescription for a mundane antibiotic and painkillers.
