I am really worried about Sneakers my 16 year old cat.... I brought her in to the vet recently because I thought she lost weight, it turned out she had only lost a very small amount if anything (but she was thin already) but my vet said she could have hyperthyroidism because she has high blood pressure and they said weight loss and high bp is sometimes caused by that. They also took an x-ray just to check if anything else was going on but didn't find anything and increased her bp meds to twice a day. Since then she started not eating as well and been sleeping more so we went back in to the vet today and they took blood and urine samples and gave an antibiotic shot. I gave her sub-q fluids this morning. She seems to be worse today though and I've hardly been able to get her to eat anything since we got back from the vet. A few times I got her to take a few bites of some canned food but then she turned her nose up at the rest. I am very worried.
She did once (several years ago) go through a bout of anorexia where she just refused to eat for a while and my vet could not find anything wrong with her, I force fed her and put her on sub-q fluids and my vet put her on anorexia meds and she did eventually start eating again but she was younger then and not underweight.
My vet thinks she could possibly have kidney disease but we won't know until the bloodwork comes back tomorrow... My vet is supposed to email it to me.
