I didn't realize it had been so long since I had actually been on here, things have been a bit crazy here!
I'll update on the kitties first, since that's who this site is for
Meowzers (Leiki) - is doing fine, she's actually started to become a bit nicer and will actually come up to us for pets and cuddles. She's getting along with Lloyd better too - we'll walk into the bedroom and they'll be sleeping close to each other. A big part of them not getting along so well was the fact that he wasn't neutered yet (I'll explain a little further down, lol).
Lloyd (Mur) - He went to get his first vaccinations earlier this week and was neutered today. I got a job a vet clinic, so I was able to be with him during the surgery and his recovery. Normally we don't discharge them until later in the afternoon, but since I was done at 2:30 and he was awake and had eaten a bit, and I work there and was going to be home for the rest of the afternoon, I was able to bring him home when I left. He's all settled in the bathroom now so he can recover for a few days, he's still a bit wobbly but is doing well. I set everything up in the bathtub for him and he seems to be happy to just relax there for now - I'm sure that will change in a few hours once all the anesthesia wears off!
Now for the rest, Mike and I may be moving. We found a townhouse to rent that's ridiculously low priced and went to look at it last week. It's absolutely perfect for us and we submitted an application, we're just waiting to hear back from the landlord as to whether we are approved or not, then we can give notice here and will be moved in at the start of March. There's two floors, 4 bedrooms, a dining room and laundry room. It'll be a vast improvement space wise from our 1 bedroom apartment that we have now. It has a little front yard with a porch and a small back yard, so the dogs will have lots of room outside to play.
Mike's leg is still healing. He's getting better at walking around but still isn't where he should be in his recovery (for those who don't know, he fractured his knee in the fall and then broke it about 6 weeks later and required surgery). He's starting to feel like he can get working again, but he's looking for a job where he won't have to move around too much - basically a cashier job in retail or something similar. This could be a challenge because he's worked in the food service industry for so long and doesn't really have any current retail experience, but we'll see. Even though Canada has free health care it still cost us quite a bit (our get Lloyd fixed fund) in braces, medication, parking, etc. One brace he literally only wore for a few hours.
School is going well for me - I finished my first semester in December and came out with pretty good grades, an A in my terminology course and a C in my other course (I hated that course and missed a section that was worth 20% of the grade, my professor said that if I would have completed that I would have had an A). I've started the Animal Husbandry course for this semester and did pretty well on my first test with 91%.
I've also switched jobs as well. I think the last time I was on here I was working 4 different jobs. I had been applying to different veterinary offices, shelters, etc all over South Western Ontario for about a year, but seemed to be looked over each time (my best guess was because I had no formal training and no experience in clinic, however I had a lot of rescue experience and experience with my own pets). I had applied to the clinic that I'm now working at 3 times. In November, I applied again and was called for an interview. They must have liked my interview because I went in that afternoon for the working portion and was hired on the spot. Two weeks in I was given a raise and at the start of February I'll have my probationary period review and will get another raise. I was able to quit all of my jobs, but I transferred to a different position and location at the drug store I worked at so I only work there twice a month (I stayed to help a friend and for the discount, lol). Things are much more relaxed at home now that I'm here more often and the pets all seem to be less stressed, which of course is a good thing. I absolutely love working at the clinic, although there are times when it's one of the most difficult jobs that I've ever had.
Hopefully that wasn't too long, just wanted to give a quick update and hopefully I'll be able to be around a bit more now!
