How do I break my 8 month make from being under foot and always in the way? I’m afraid that if we bring my mother in law over to our house, the cat will trip her. It’s never a good time for a fall and broken hip. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if there is a way to break a cats habit of always being under foot. They're just so stealthily. I know I still walk into Ruby sometimes when I don't realize she's there. But it definitely is concern that they could trip someone, especially older adults.

Here's a similar thread from 2022 with a few comments that might be helpful.

Does your mother in law visit for the day, or is it an extended stay? If it is just for the day, the best solution might be to set up a "safe room" for your cat, with a litter box, food and water dishes, lots of toys, and simply keep him in there while your mother in law visits. For longer stays...dunno. I'll think on it.
