Have a male and female who have been friends. Male was neutered yesterday and now the female is acting like she never saw him before...hissing and swatting. What is up with this?

He smells different now. She should settle down in a day or two.

My mother has two bengals, the youngest of which just got spayed. The two were absolutely inseperable until after the surgery, and then suddenly Callie wanted nothing to do with Isis whatsoever, hissing and swatting and growling at her every moment. It took her nearly a week, but they're back to being best buds.

If it persists, try taking some dry brewers yeast, sprinkle it gently over both kitties, then brush it out. It'll make them both smell the same and should help them get over their tiff.

or vanilla extract, not the imitation but the actual stuff, rub some on thier heads and base of the tail so they smell the same.

he picked up so many smells while away so she needs some time to get over it and realize he is the same old cat just missing a few parts...

oh and if she isn't spayed yet and around 5 or 6 months old then he can still get her pregnant for a week or two after the neutering.

I think often when any major operation has happened there is a different scent as well as a behavioral change in the patient which would definitely cause confusion with playmates. Just be patient and neutering till healing process has finished and they will be fine!
