We adopted our 4 year old girl in May along with a 2 year old male. They're unrelated. They haven't gotten along since we brought them home.

We tried everything, but they fight if they are together for more than 30 minutes. And they don't relax at all for those 30 minutes. It's almost been a year and we have to always keep them separated.

It's so frustrating for me and my husband. We love both cats, and can't imagine trying to pick one to rehome or take back to the shelter, but what else can we Do? Always keep them seperated? Is that really whats best for them?

Our local shelter only gives 12 months to return a cat. I say keep them separated. It's not your fault they don't get along - they made that decision.

I would first try the Feliway plug-ins and the pheromone sprays to see if that relaxes their territorial feelings towards each other.
