Hello,

So this is resident kitty Marbles;

And this is our unofficial adoptee Taz;

Taz and us met when he got stuck up a tree a couple of months back and is officially our neighbour's furbaby, however she had asked me to help her out in feeding him (low income abd too many cats). She wants us to take him when she moves next month. He's a lover so i gladly accepted.

So for a little over a month or so, he's been with us. I didn't do a property intrOduction and marbles hasn't gotten used to having him around. She swats and hisses at him when he walks by. She seats and hisses at hubby and I when Taz is around. He gets a lot of attention so I'm thinking it might be jealousy? Our intention isn't to give Taz more, but he is constantly pining for attention. She comes for love and petting when she wants lol.

She (Marbles) used to sleep with us, but Taz does now too. There is enough room for both but sharing doesn't seem like an option with her.

Marbles is a 2 y.o. female that has been fixed. Taz is a 6 month old that isn't fixed. Taz has no sense of boundaries (this is mine and that is her's)

Do i need to seperate them and try reintroducing each other the proper way? Any other ideas?

Thank you!

In a word. Yes. They need to be separated and introduced in a slow way that makes it so that Marbles doesn't feel that his home is being invaded. However they should be absolutely separated until the new cat is spayed. The hormones of an unspayed cat can be threatening to Marbles. This could be at least part of the problem.

You do need to do reintroductions and slowly!!  Yet, first off I would get Taz neutered.  He may not be able to control himself with all of the hormones coursing through his body.  Also please do not allow him to go outside especially since he is not neutered.  Neutering a male cat is easy peasy.  They are back to their normal selves within a day or so.  I would definitely get him neutered ASAP and then start reintroductions.  Here are some articles and a video on cat to cat intros.  I would start at the feeding behind closed doors and progress from there.  You do not want to move on to the next step until the current step has no growling or hissing or posturing.  Take it all very slowly.  Also during the reintroduction period, the cats should be completely separated.  No contact except when working on the steps.
