My real issue with cats being free in the car is that IF there is an accident, they become flying objects headed for the windshield. The chances are low, but if they are in a carrier, properly secured with a seat belt, the chances become none.

There is too big a chance they could dart out the open car door. I ahd a cat loose once in the car,and somehow he got wedged behind the brake pedal! Thank goodness I was on a stretch of road that i could bend down and drag him out, thank goodness I didn't HAVE to stop, it was scary!
Thanks god! Yeah, it only takes once. That's why I yell about KEEPING CATS IN CARRIERS IN THE CAR!!!;):winkcat:

The TCS members have given you lots of great info and I applaud you for adopting a senior cat. Hopefully your travel problem will be solved and he will give you many years of happiness as he sounds very young at heart!
