Apparently tortie and calico are essentially the same thing. A calico has the white spot gene though. As the degree of white spotting increases, the torties patches become less brindled and more defined, and becomes a calico. Id call your cat a torbie because the black and orange are more brindled than patchy. This video goes into more detail if you are interested.
