Good tip for hard-boiled eggs, if you're interested. If you only have newer eggs, but you need to cook them for potato salad or macaroni salad, put your eggs in a saucepan. Add about 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda, then add hot water to cover the eggs, making sure the baking soda is dissolved. Cook your eggs, then drain and add ice and water to cool them. Remove the shells. The eggs should shell w/o a lot of trouble. These eggs were fresh from the supermarket. They shelled beautifully.

Wow!! I have been putting vinegar in the boiling water..I heard the shells do not crack.. So far, I have not had a cracked shell since doing this...

I guess we need to put the baking soda, with vinegar????????? Yikes!!

Thanks for the tip! I am without a little egg cooker right now (you know the ones; BTW, they are great). I will try this with my next batch.

You know, I tried using vinegar and it didn't work for me.
Kat0121 Kat0121 I don't know if it would work for soft-boiled eggs. Give it a try!
