I am finding a ton of tiny (under 3mm) red spiders on corners of the walls in my apartment. As in, this morning I counted 12 on the door frame to the balcony. My apartment is not on the ground and there are no trees rubbing against the building.

What are they? I read about red spider mites and was wondering if that is what they were, as when you squeeze them they will leave a red spot on the wall. But, there are no plants inside my apartment. I did find a 10mm (body only) long jumping spider near some of those, but they did not seem to be related.

The part that concerns me is of course the topic for this site: my cat. Can those spider thingies harm/itch/whatever my cat? If so, what can I do do keep them way from her?

Yep.  Those are red spider mites, also known as clover mites, and they don't bite animals.  I've seen them in all sorts of places that I wouldn't have expected.
