Soooo, we installed the baby gate over the weekend to keep the puppy out of the cats part of the house - they can go wherever, but I want to give them a safe space when puppy comes, he can't go in there.
We've planned a slow introduction. But still, this morning I started to construct a bell to put on the doorknob (to use in potty training puppy). As I'm putting it together (ribbon and jingle bells) the cats get ALL excited. OF COURSE, they think it's for them. Why else had I ever brought something like that into the house? Why hadn't it occurred to me that ribbon and jingle bells is pretty much a cat toy?
I played with them a bit with it and am making one for them too. But, couldn't help but feel extremely guilty. I am pretty sure they will adapt eventually to if not enjoy, but tolerate their canine friend, but I feel bad that I am disrupting their happy life.
So, today is the end of cats being the only animal reigning in this household. Later today comes the introduction of a DOG, dun dun dun....
