I'm sure that there are quite a few people like myself and my family when it comes to buying Christmas gifts. We've never really been the kind of people who can just buy something and surprise someone with it on Christmas. Every year after Thanksgiving dinner is done we all sit around and talk "So, what do you want for Christmas?". We all get ideas from each other, and usually wind up buying some of things mentioned. Maybe once in a while one of us will get a rare moment of inspiration and get something that no one is expecting, but it's rare
This year it's even worse. Not just for me and my wife and what we're telling people we want, which is pretty much just gift cards because we don't need nor can with think of anything. But for what we're buying for friends and family. This year almost no one can give us an idea as to what they want, and of course as I said, we're terrible at thinking of anything for the most part. So it seems as if the majority of what we're buying for people are in gift cards. Is it just me or does anyone else feel like this is the easy way out? Sure, everyone loves gift cards, especially if it's a place you always go. My wife and I are thrilled to get cards to restaurants and stores. But we feel especially this year like it's going to feel a bit strange when most of our family gets envelopes with gift cards instead of things to unwrap.
I think it's even worse for me and my wife when it comes to buying gifts for each other. My wife has given me a few ideas (all of which I've basically gone for), but when it comes to what *I* want I just feel like "What's the point? If I want it, I could just buy it myself. It's both our money"
