Hey, you bird lovers, how do birds have eggs? I mean, I thought the mother bird layed the eggs and the father bird came along and fertilized them later??? Am I right? I've been watching two robins at my nest outside my window, and they look like they are trying to mate the normal way?? I'm confused! (nothing new)

No question is ever stupid if you don't know the answer.

Actually, I believe fish fertilize the eggs that way - i.e., the female lays them and the male squirts sperm on them.

I think the birds actually mate before she lays the eggs. Honestly I'm not even sure myself but that's what I believe.

So you see this is definitely NOT a stupid question. I bet we aren't the only ones who don't know for sure!

Hey, I always thought that it was that way, too (where the eggs are layed and the male fertilizes later)

That's one of those questions many of us have but don't really want to ask! I'm glad you did, though, because I'm sure someone knows!

I had a pair of white doves and believe me when I tell you this....they took care of business before the egg was laid.

My male Cockatiel is constantly mounting my female but he doesn't quite get which end of her he's supposed to be doing his business on.

They sound more like rabbits than birds
