Does anyone have any tricks up their sleeve to effectively manage this condition so as to prevent infection?

There is currently no infection, just a bit of oily buildup which I brush regularly and wash every so often. The tail still feels and looks grimy after a bath, so obviously need something more effective. Preferably something that I can apply without having to bathe him regularly just so it's easier on him.

I finally found witch hazel yesterday! So I'm going to use dawn liquid soap to remove the oil and then apply the witch hazel, and continue the witch hazel every day and see how that goes.
