Beware, the female can even get pregnant as young as 4 months. I would know, mine did!
That is why you need to place them in humane traps and take them to the vet in the traps. The vet can administer the anesthesia through the cage and perform the spay/neuter while they are asleep. If you are going to return the cats back outdoors...you need to make sure to have the vet ear tip the cats.Originally Posted by liz85
i just feel so bad....all they do is lay at the back of the kennel and do nothing....mom and i take em out to hold them...but we try to get them to play with some feather toys inside the kennel and they want nothing to do with it....would a vet even care for such wild cats??? there is no way they would sit still to have an exam lol they barely let us hold them....as long as they are wrapped up in a blanket and cant see us or anything else they are ok...but if they can see they are off lol
Liz....well.....it sounds like you have become the local stray kitten advocate...don't be surprized if others in your neighborhood reach out to you. I know people who are now working on colonies of cats and it all started with 1 little colony. TNR is definately the way to go with kittens/cats that are feral. As long as you can offer them food and shelter..they can help to keep the rodent population under control.Originally Posted by liz85
OK a little update.....the female ate out of my hand this morning and can be held without a blanket....the male is making improvements as well just not as fast...
A neighbor came over today and asked me how we caught them and said they had two small kittens hanging around and wanted to catch them as well....we are so popular lol....so the guy set a trap this afternoon and about an hr later we had another one...these guys are tiny like 6-8 weeks old...gave em back his trap wished him luck and a little while later they were bringing over another one...our household is so blessed.....lol...these last two appear to be both males....and are well on their way to being good for nothing lazy contented house cats lol they are long hair as well i will be taking pics when i get back from the store...im thinkin the kittens would like some kitten milk formula stuff so we will get that....I'm guessing the first male is gonna have to go to a neuter and release type of a place im just afraid to take him to a shelter as im afraid they will just put him down cuz he is so wild...
ill get pics up soon
Liz and the many new animals lol
So glad to read your updates.....at 5 weeks..you should start to introduce them to kitten food and the litterbox.Originally Posted by liz85
