I have gone through my preferences several time and thought I stopped any notifications that result in emails but in the last few days I have gotten several. Is this a site issue or is there something I am missing?

I have this issue too. The emails are all replies to watched threads/replies to me directly, despite having the setting turned off.
Edit: Oops never mind, I just double checked and had some notifications turned off but not the advanced ones regarding email replies to watched threads. So I maybe don’t have this issue, we will see, but OP should probably check that out too.

It looks like I’m still getting emails from @ mentions despite having them turned off (I got one from your comment here) but not general replies to watched threads (didn’t get one from Susan’s response)
So that part might still not be working but I personally am fine with receiving just those
