By special I do mean I love him dearly but more importantly, he is special because of how I think he may be a little crazy. I will try to make this as short as possible.
About 3 or 4 years ago I adopted my husband's great grandmother's cat. He is a beautiful dark gray manx and he will be 14 in March. Yay! Unfortunately for me, he has a peeing problem that may stem back a very long time, possibly his whole life for all I know. I have been dealing with it since I took him because grandma couldn't care for him anymore because of her age.
The Fuzz (the manx) was abandoned by his mother because he was the runt and she had 9 other kittens. The mother's owners then proceeded to bottle feed him but all of the other kittens and his mother shunned him. Therefore, besides what is probably instinctual, he lacks all feline social education. This is why I feel he may be a problem case.
We have moved 3 times since we have had him and I realize that is very hard on him. He usually doesn't start peeing in the new house for weeks though after we move. What he will do is find a particular spot he likes (usually by a door and right up against the wall) and he will pee there. He does not defecate anywhere but the litter box. I don't know if he pees in the litter box or not but I am constantly cleaning and have called service master recently.
We have had 2 other cats at different times with him. One was a grown cat and the one we have currently just turned 1 year. We did have him for a time with no other cats at all and he still peed on the carpet. We have 3 litter boxes and I scoop them daily. I HATE nasty smells in my house so I try to be diligent. I use a very fine cat litter because they are both declawed in the front. He has been checked for urinary health issues and is surprisingly healthy for his age. We use Feliway plug ins in the outlets everywhere but in the vicinity of the litter boxes (that was tricky!).
I currently have painter's plastic down on his current favorite spot so I can at least tell when he's using that spot.
I am at my wit's end with this cat but I love him and don't believe in killing an animal because it does something that annoys me. Animals are living creatures too. I can't let him keep doing this though! I vaguely entertained the idea of giving him to someone who thinks they can handle him but I worry what might happen to him.
If you have read all the way down here then you are already my hero for listening to the issue.
If you have suggestions, even better! Thanks!
