I saw that Hound and Gatos was mentioned in a few posts as a decent canned brand to offer, so I went out and bought a few different flavours to try with my cat. She will eat just about anything these days, and she knows that those little cans hold untold wonders. She did her usual song and dance at feeding time, I scooped some out and she excitedly rushed over, licked it twice and immediately stopped and stared at me like I was some kind of crazy thing.
I figured, well, she just doesn't like that flavour (it was the trout) so I grabbed a can of beef and tried again. She slowly but surely ate it, but it was obvious she would have preferred almost anything else in the world.
So again, I figured she probably just didn't like the brand. Normally when I offer her new brands she will just dig in and eat whatever it is no problem, so I wasn't going to torture her with half-eaten food she clearly didn't like. I offered the leftovers to my housemate for her cats, who are also not really that picky when it comes to food. None of the four of them would eat it either.
It just seems so weird that out of five cats I couldn't get any of them excited about eating it. Normally these cats will be clawing at my legs desperately trying to get at canned food and there was no reaction to Hound and Gatos. Should I just cross this brand off of my list? Is it worth it to try different flavours if I've already struck out twice? I do still have a can of their chicken I can try later on down the road, I suppose. I'm just disappointed, I was hoping to add some more variety to my fairly small rotation of brands.
Here's Sadie's unimpressed face, as a bonus:
