Something Growing On Cat's Paw

Cat was limping one day and then seen this in between his toes on his back paw. He doesn't limp anymore though has some trouble jumping. What is this growing on his paw?

Do you use clumping litter? It looks like it could be clumping litter mixed with pee that clumped to your cat's feet?

litter stuck to paws. Try wet clothe and have cat sit/stand on wet clothe-see if they will sit there for a few minutes to soften it-then try to pull it off once it's soaked enough-some cats don't let you do this-my Honeybee growls whenever I fiddle with her paws-I can't even clip her claws-she bites...so try to keep the cat distracted with a toy or something incase they get crabby.
