LOL, I'm sure you've heard the story many times before. Over Labor day weekend two months ago while BBQing with a neighbor I said I was thinking about adopting a cat/kitten. Of course with a few beers in my system, I got home searched craigslist for free kitten and a listing showed up. My mind cleared while standing on the front lawn waiting for somebody to drop off some sort of animal.wondering what exactly did i just agree too. For all I know, what could be showing up in a few minutes was the ugliest, nastiest beast to walk the earth as I had neglected to ask anything about the cat.. Fortunately, a nice couple dropped off a beautiful kitten about 12 weeks.old. I named her Jolene after the Dolly Parton song which had just came up on a Youtube search a few minutes before walking out my door..
Whew, so far so good, I got her inside where she immediately ran for cover upon being released. Fortunately, she came out after 2 hours and jumped up on my lap. It took her about 2 weeks to fully adjust as I was her third home from what I could gather from a brief conversation with the previous owner who dropped her off. I haven't gotten her spayed yet but will over Christmas time. At about 5 months she already has a suitor stalking her. I heard a knock in my dreams only to realize that it was real. After waking up Jolene got up and checked the door then I dragged myself over to see who it could be.... and it was nobody. Wait what's that black thing down there? I turn on the porch light to find a cat just sitting there staring at my Jolene. Ugh, I haven't even seen this cat before in my yard. So yeah, it has started.
With that said, I would like to thank everyone for their contributions to this site. As a first time cat owner it has helped immensely. There is no way Jolene is going out on her own until fixed now. I thought she might have some time but no way. Also, I'm not sure I'll ever let her out anyways as I live on a death row. Across the street is a large open field plus we abut against the hills, I've seen many coyotes wandering around. Many neighbors have lost cats over the years. Since reading this site, I've tried to get out into places she can't run away so she's used to being in unfamiliar terrain. She will explore the garage but won't the vacant house on the property I live on. I think this is because the previous tenant had two cats.
She is very affectionate and sleeps with me but I can see why it's not easy letting them run outside. Jolene isn't very responsive when I try to end our sessions. When I get a chance I'm going to get a harness to walk her. With that, there is a high probability our picture will end up being some sort Internet meme as I'll be a big guy walking a small cat. Hilarity will ensue. Anyways here are some pics:
