Three weeks ago, we found a five month old wandering the neighborhood. She had a flea collar that was choking her and was starving. Took her to the vet's and got the all-clear. Combo testing negative, treated with Revolution so the worms, fleas and other critters were taken care of. She's on my sunporch and her name is Eleanor.
The same day I took Eleanor to the vet, I got a call from a friend, who had another kitten - this one six weeks old. She'd been seen next to the bodies of her brother and sister and later, they found mom dead. It appeared that someone had poisoned mom and we're not sure what happened to the other kittens. It took them two days to finally catch her but no one was set up for a kitten that young. Long story short, she's in my bathroom after her own trip to the vet. Her name is Hannah.
Three days ago, I noticed one of my cats scratching her ears vigorously. Then another one started, then Eleanor and now Hannah. All have brown liquidy goop in their ears. It looks like watered down earmites. I have redosed both Hannah and Eleanor and am in the process of dosing all six of my own cats. I'm just discouraged. Both Eleanor and Hannah saw the vet's and got the all clear before meeting my cats.
I guess there's no guarantee but geez ...
The good news is, we found a home for Eleanor. I just have to clear up the brown goop first. I plan at least one trip to the vets to confirm it's earmites but they're all getting a dose of Revolution just to be safe.
Ironically, the only one NOT scratching is our Josie, who has a chronic ear problem from untreated earmites when she was a kitten. Her ears were such a mess when we found her, it took surgery to clean them out.
