Aw Stephanie, I just found this thread. I am so pleased to hear you've found a great vet to work with, and how well Sierra responded. Here's to great lab results
I'm so happy for you. It sounds like Sierra needs a special vet and that you found one.
I know that having a good vet can make the difference. I'm very grateful for our vet who is so great with our cats and has such concern for them. She is so helpful with Much who has had UTIs (and can't take oral antibotics) and surgery for a pre-cancerous growth. This vet has always taken the time to discuss our questions and concern. And her staff is fantastic. The summer we lost my dear Petunia we were at the vet's a lot because both Much and Petunia were taking turns being sick. Everyone was so supportive.
In fact, we got Lucy as a kitten from the vet also. One of the techs found a pregnant stray and they raised the kittens at the hospital.
So congrats and thanks for sharing with us your great news.
That is SOOOO wonderful to hear that she was so good! Sprecial scritches for such a brave girl
And it's even more wonderful that the vet is so understanding and patient with her. She needs that encouragement and the security of knowing that nothing bd is going to happen to her - and I think she got that this time. It's good to know that he could get most of it all done without the sedative. That gives her the opportunity to have a totally different experience of it all. She sounds like she's doing really well - congrats to you, Sierra and of course this wonderful man who made it all so good for her!
Thank you so much for sharing our excitement about our lovely appt! Yes, I am absolutley over the moon with joy about having found this wonderful Dr.! You're right, now Sierra finally has had a pleasant experience helping her to realize going to the v-e-t doesn't need to be such a scary event and that I would never let anything happen to her. Thank you for sharing your own personal stories and for understanding how important this is to us! I'm so blessed to have you guys who are as concerned about my girls as if your own kitty was in this same situation!
Her BUN and Creatinine (indicating kidney function) remain on the very high end of normal, but they are still within normal limits!
Her specific gravity is great! This means she is still properly concentrating her urine! (another indicator of kidney function) Her cholesterol is still elevated, but not significantly, as is her blood sugar, but this is common under stress or excitement. Sierra's T4 is great as well!
The only immediate concern is that her Potassium level is quite low. This plays an important role in kidney function. Her Dr. has ordered potassium for her which we will promptly begin supplementing twice daily. It can simply be mixed with her other supplements which she receives every morning and night.
All in all, these results tell us that Sierra's current diet and treatment plan is working wonderfully! I'm so excited and proud of my baby girl, I feel like dancing around!
Believe I'll throw a big party in her honor!
Everyone is invited!
Thank you so much for sharing our joy and for caring about my sweet baby girl!
