Here in NY they will neuter & vaccinate feral cats for $50. They have to be feral, still living outside. Once you bring them inside your house, it's regular prices, which I think is around $65 for neutering.

I've had cats for over 30+ years and have introduced kittens to adults and adults to adults with pretty good success, male and female. Based on my experience, I would think that a kitten would be accepted just fine.

In my area (Ventura County, California) our local shelters due spay/neuter low cost days a few times a year for $40. They also do low cost vaccine days. It should be well worth a google and some low cost clinics. (And unlike with female cats, getting a male cat neutered is not invasive & has a very quick recovery time.)
