My 16 year old cat has decided he likes to pee/poo in the bathroom rather than the cat box.  I took him to the vet and had his bloodwork done. She said  that for a 16 year old cat he is great.  Just the very, very beginning of kidney issues.  Could he just be getting senile?  Any other ideas?

Have you tried a lower litter box? Sometimes it's just a matter of a senior cat becoming too stiff to make the effort to climb into a litter box of average height. Some people resort to using cookie sheets or something similar. A storage box with one side completely cut down might work.

Older cats often have arthritis which can make it hard for them to use a normal sided litter box, so I agree with the other comment about trying a lower sided box. Older cats can also have constipation issues. Does it seem like he's having a hard time passing stool?
