Hi, our cats had their first litter on 2 Jan 2015. We have 3 blue girls, 1 lilac girl and a cream or fawn boy.
Both parents are blue Scottish Straight (shorthair). My concearn is about the boy (cream or fawn colour, i'm confused), his fur is longer than the others (well, one of the girls looks the same).
Question is, could this boy and this girl be longhair, since the parents are shorthair? What colour is the boy? Cream or fawn?
Thanks for your help [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Longhaired gene is recessive, so its fully possible shorthaired parents get a longhaired kitten, if they are carriers of the gene.

But it may be kitten fuzziness - its in part individual.

How are the two possibly longhaired behaving comparing with their shorthaired  siblings?   I read witnesses the longhaired tend to be slower, less mobile.

I remember a persian / exotic breeder witnesses this, as she had apparently some allowed cross.  She got litters, some went to be longhaired persians, and registered as such, and some went to be shorthaired exotics, and registered as such.  As said, she was allowed beforehand to do this mating.

And she saw, the easiest way to see very early which was which, to look on their behavior.  The first ones to crawle out from the nest were almost always the coming shorthaired exotics...

Re the exact colors I wont answer, Im no specialist on colors.

Thank you for your answer.
All of them are energic and speddy kittens, but the boy was the first to crawl from the nest.
I guess we'll have to wait and see how their fur develops in the next weeks.

Oh what beautiful kitties :heart3:

I agree with StefanZ about the fur length, only time will tell if it's just kitten fluff or if he is in fact longhaired :D

For colour he must be a fawn.

Cream is part of the red series of coat colours, so must have a parent with red colour of some sort to produce kittens of this colour. Red is a dominant gene so cannot skip generations.

Fawn however is part of the black based coat colours. Blue is the dilute of black and as both parents are blue I suspect that this means your little boy must be a fawn. :D

Thank you so much for your opinion GemsGem [emoji]128515[/emoji] I think he must be fawn.
We are going to keep this little guy in our small cattery. He follow us around the house, looking for a cuddle all the time so I guess he chosed us

They do look longhaired, or at least longer than shorthaired :lol3:. Do you know what's in their pedigree? I guess I don't know if Scottish Folds/Straights normally have longhaired cats in their history. Adorable kittens anyway!

I've been doing some research and found out a longhair in Kika's grandparent.
Scottish longhair cats are called Highland Straight or Fold.

Here are a picture of this little boy :wavey:

But the other parent must also be a carrier, to one of the kittens to become longhaired. Both parents must be carriers (1 of 4 will be longhaired here, in average - but may of course vary somewhat).

The chances of getting a reply are very slim indeed:
