Just starting to introduce a new female cat in a home of a male cat. Both live apart. I have a problem. I took a sock with the scent of the female. Then placed with the male. The male urinated on the female scented sock. I'm afraid that the male will continue to mark his territory around the house once they are introduced to each other. Need input.

I would not make that assumption based on his first introduction to her scent. It simply means that you may need to move slower in the introduction process.

Are they both spayed and neutered? That is absolutely the number 1 thing to do before ANYTHING else can begin as far as introductions go. The new cat also needs to be tested for FIV and FeLV to make sure he doesn't have it and so he doesn't infect your cat. They should both also have all their vaccines.

THEN introductions can begin.

Try some Feliway plug ins, do the scent exchange method you are doing, feed them on either side of the door so they have a positive experience close to each other. Go slow! Good luck!
