I live in southern california, btw, where it's basically already springtime. Every morning for the last 2 years, I let my cats play outside for about 30 minutes, always supervised, but since I had the day off I let them go out again after sunset, but saw a massive spider near the bushes they play in. Took a picture of it, seeing that unmistakable red hourglass and immediately picked up the cats and tossed them back inside. They didn't play in that particular bush with the spider, however, one of them did play in the bushes near it. I guess I'm just worried there were more, or will be more in the future.
Right now, like 45 minutes since being out, they're both napping peacefully. How soon do spider bite reactions occur? Would it be obvious? Should I go back outside and kill it, or call my apartment manager about it? Lol I'm such a pacifist, especially when it comes to dealing with bugs, I always take them outside instead of squishing them, but I'm just worried about how deadly these guys are. Also, now I'm just worried about taking my cats outside at all. It's their favorite thing to do besides eat, they demand it every morning, I'd hate to make them stay in the tiny apartment all day but I'm just really scared now about what could be out there.
