Salt Lamps And Cats

I know we have had a few threads about these. My husband bought me a salt lamp for Christmas. My initial reaction was "eek". I've been reading threads here and researching on the internet. It seems like the issue is if a cat actually licks the lamp.

Does anyone know if there is an issue for a cat to be in the room with a lamp if they don't come into contact with it?

The problem is that cats tend to lick the lamps and get salt poisoning. I'd suggest maybe putting it in a filagreed "cage" and placing it somewhere the cat can't easily access. If you do that, you and your cat should be just fine!

I have a salt lamp. I have it on a table that the cats can't easily get to, and they've never paid the slightest attention to it that I've seen. We haven't had any issues with it.
