I ran across this when I was Googling for something else. Even though these are cases of human poisoning, our cats, although less susceptible to salmonella than humans, can also be infected. The confirmed poisonings all seem to be tied to dry dog food but the article says the same could be happen with any dry pet food. I also found a report of a similar outbreak in '06, also tied to dry dog food.

I also ran across this article that suggests a way to way to sanitize dry pet food. Does anyone know if this would be effective?

I don't think there is any cause for panic here. We should all just be aware of the importance of properly storing and handling our pets foods.
